Monica Lara
Like many high-achieving students, Monica Lara is already taking college classes while still in high school. The San Luis High School senior qualified for the school's Teacher Cadet program and is taking Introduction to Education at Arizona Western College to prepare her for college next year.
Lara said doing this while still in high school allows her to prepare for college and her chosen profession of becoming a teacher.
San Luis teacher Aryca Arizaga-Marron said Lara has a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard. "By her taking steps to begin her college career at the high school level demonstrates that she is motivated and willing to challenge herself," Arizaga-Marron wrote in her nomination letter for Lara.
She is the daughter of Daila and Juan Lara.
Lara is on the honor roll and is also a member of the "A" Team at San Luis. She plans to attend college and study education.
