Jayson Koppinger - Sun Scholar Award 2008: Social Science
Jayson Koppinger, a Yuma Catholic High School senior, consistently showed a genuine interest in his American history honors class as well as an avid interest in the world, said Stephen DeDecker, history department chair at YCHS.
Koppinger said his teachers brought the subject to life in his classes.
"I enjoyed learning how the past might affect the present and the future," he said.
DeDecker said Koppinger has achieved academic success through hard work, diligence and dedication.
Koppinger has been awarded the President's Education Award for outstanding academic excellence and High Honor Roll, AIA Dr. Voie Stuart
Chose Coy Scholar Athlete Award.
While at Yuma Catholic, Koppinger played football, basketball and baseball at the varsity level, altar served and was a eucharistic minister at the school. He also has volunteered his time at the Yuma Community Food
Bank.
The son of Pat and Jeannie Koppinger, he plans to attend the University of Arizona to pursue a career in the medical field.
