Antelope Union High School valedictorian J. Mintzmyer enjoys discussing history and politics in class.

According to his adviser, Jeff Peters, the high school senior is inquisitive, bright and dependable. Mintzmyer keeps himself updated on current events and doesn't hesitate to debate others on the issues, Peters said.

"Jay appreciates what history can teach us and makes it relevant to his life," Peters wrote in his nomination letter.

Mintzmyer is in the straight-A Honor Roll and won first place in the FFA state competition for business management. He's been involved in FFA, Student Council and wrestling. He is the son of Charles and Rachelle Mintzmyer.

Mintzmyer's plan after graduation is to pursue an engineering degree. He has received letters of appointment to West Point, Naval Academy and Air Force Academy as well as an offer of admission to Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
