Somerton has received the Arizona Governor's Office Highway Safety Grant to purchase extraction equipment and had Unified Fire from Tucson, Ariz. bring in Tim Shott and the RESQTEC equipment to see how well the extraction equipment works. Javier Hernandez, fire captain for Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department stated that the RESQTEC Extraction equipment is lighter and combines a hand and thumb operating control - most extraction equipment comes with one or the other. Somerton/Cocopah Fire department will be receiving their grant money in February to purchase new extraction equipment for their first response unit and their existing extraction equipment will be used on their secondary unit.
